This past weekend, I witnessed a birth and also gave birth again – not literally, but figuratively and it was symbolic of the time was right and the need was present for change.
My youngest daughter, one who has expressed fear in driving and other drivers on the road (like many others) and would have loved her Mommy to drive her around everywhere for the rest of her life, bought a car this weekend.
After swallowing her fear of spending big money (she had it saved FOREVER), she signed the papers and stepped into her “big girl panties” and purchased her first car, ordered up six months of insurance and to celebrate, her fiancee` gave her an emergency kit for a present.
As the song “There Goes My Baby” echoes in the back of my mind, I witnessed her giving birth to a new Bea, a woman who has a fabulous career and my namesake granddaughter, but I too, gave birth. Birth to more time to work on my projects, dreams and aspirations. These have been in incubation for years.
The feelings I have are joyful and yet melancholy; I have more time to do what I want to do yet do not have a reason for going to the other side of town daily. No more sleepy snuggles of baby Jackie in the morning or grocery shopping on early Sunday mornings.
This weekend is the international day to celebrate all Mothers – living and passed on – who have nurtured, supported and pressed us on when we were facing big challenges and fears. These are the people who know us best, who has spent more time with us that anyone in the world, who would step in front of the Devil himself to shield their offspring.
This Mother’s Day, take a moment to thank her for bringing you into this World and allowing you to Be. If it wasn’t for her, you would not be here. Please consider taking flowers to her – whether living or dead – and lighting a pink candle for Mom. Send her your love and gratefulness for allowing you to Be.
This Sunday would also be an excellent time to honor our Earth Mother. You can do this by simply lighting a blue candle for Peace and Serenity for her. Those who honors Goddesses would do justice to light a candle to them as well.
Happy Mother’s Day.
